Jean (1903)

Mezzo-soprano Amanda Finch sings Harry T. Burleigh's art song "Jean," accompanied by Alex Nguyen. “Jean” is possibly Burleigh's most popular art song, written in 1903. It was his first true commercial success and first contribution to the American art song. Dr. Jean Snyder writes that a reviewer wrote ten years after his death that "Jean" had a "grave, classic beauty" and called it a "first-rate example of early twentieth-century American song literature.” The text is a poem by Frank L. Stanton.
